| View in browser You Grew the List All Year. SMS Slept Through It. Two texts are the fastest owned-channel money most brands leave sitting. The play 📱 Hey there, Pull up your SMS revenue for the last 90 days. For a lot of 8 and 9 figure brands, it's a rounding error. The list kept growing. Paid kept getting pricier. And the owned channel that gets read in minutes sat switched off past the welcome text. SMS is a revenue channel you already own and never turned on. It started as a shipping-notification tool and never grew up. Meanwhile it's where your highest-intent buyers hear you while the promo email is still sitting unopened in Promotions. The channel with the highest open rate in your stack is the one you're using least. Heads up Klaviyo picked now to reprice SMS. Credits out, dollar-based rates in, 70-plus new tiers, and their first rate update in years. Most accounts move onto it on the first billing cycle after August 13. Depending on your channel mix and regions, your rate could tick up or down. The move is the same either way. A channel you barely use is easy to overpay for, so switch it on properly and make every text earn its place. Why SMS sits dark 📵 Most brands treat SMS as risky. One wrong blast, a wave of unsubscribes, so it stays parked on order confirmations and nothing else. The brands making real money on it flipped that fear on its head. They text less, and they text at the moments that matter, so those texts get read while the campaign email is still loading. Where to switch it on first 🔀 Skip the campaign blast at launch. Turn on the flows where a text obviously beats an email, then expand from there. → Abandoned checkout. The highest-intent moment there is. A text lands while the cart is still warm and the email is still loading. → Back-in-stock and price-drop alerts. Pure intent, no persuasion needed. Someone asked to be told, so tell them where they'll actually see it. → VIP early access. Give your recently engaged buyers first shot at a drop or a sale by text, before the full list gets the email. → One post-purchase check-in, timed to the product's real reorder window. A single well-timed text does the job, no drip. A value lever in the wild 📱 Qure Skincare  ·  a gift with purchase, no discount No percentage off anywhere. It opens with the problem, unfiltered water undoing your skin and hair care, then hands over a free faucet filter worth $99 with the Shower Filter. The gift carries the offer, and the copy earns the tap before the link ever shows up. what to steal Lead the text with the problem, then let a gift with purchase do the work a discount usually does. The offer lands as value the customer keeps, and the price holds. The flows are the easy part. Watching a dormant SMS channel turn into real revenue is where it gets fun. Here's a brand that did it. See what SMS did for Olivia Jewelry → "My customers will hate getting texts" 🤔 They opted in. The mass unsubscribes come from blasting a discount three times a week. A back-in-stock alert someone asked for does the opposite. Treat the channel as high-signal and a text reads as a perk. Keep it to the moments that earn the buzz in someone's pocket and the list stays happy. A premium travel dog crate brand ran that exact play earlier this year. They kept the 15% offer, cleaned the unengaged contacts, and rewrote the copy with more urgency. SMS revenue climbed about 50% month over month while unsubscribes fell. They sent less and made more. The moment The channel Abandoned checkout, high intent Text it ↑ Back-in-stock or price drop they asked for Text it ↑ VIP early access to a drop or sale Text first, email second A long, educational story Keep it in email Your weekly campaign to the whole list Keep it in email A discount blasted to every number you have That's a spam-report machine What happens when you actually switch it on 📈 10× Olivia Jewelry grew SMS revenue 10x year over year, from tightening segmentation and adding lifecycle touchpoints. +333% Truly Beauty lifted SMS revenue 333%, alongside a 191% jump in new SMS subscribers, once the channel was built for real acquisition and replenishment work. 46% Cadenshae switched on SMS in a market that had none, and email and SMS together now carry 46% of total revenue. 2× A fitness equipment brand spent a year with its SMS list flat, zero net new subscribers. It switched SMS campaigns back on, and attributed revenue hit a record, roughly double the year before, with 2,000-plus net new SMS subscribers in a single quarter. Same list-building tools, same Klaviyo. The only thing that changed was someone finally switching the channel on. Peak season and new SMS rates are both landing soon, which makes this channel matter even more. AminoCo already runs it that way, pulling 76% of its Black Friday revenue from email and SMS across a structured, multi-phase sequence. The cheapest new revenue channel this quarter is already in your Klaviyo, switched off. No new traffic, no new spend. Just the flows you skipped when the account was set up. SMS feels like a channel you'll get to eventually. Eventually is the expensive part. Turn on the two or three flows where a text obviously wins, keep the volume low and the timing sharp, and the channel you've been ignoring starts paying like one you built on purpose. SMS is one layer of a bigger system. If you want the whole thing, how email, SMS and push work together, the 6-Layer Playbook lays it out. Free download. Get the 6-Layer Playbook → Cheers, Josh P.S. Turn on abandoned-checkout SMS this week. One flow, the highest-intent moment you have, and it tells you fast whether the channel's been leaving money on the table.
